Chamonix is located in the French Alps near the borders of both Italy and Switzerland. Chamonix is best known as the skiing and alpine capital of the world. As a destination it has a reputation for the extreme but it also offers a wide array of sporting and leisure activities for all ages, peace and quiet, great nightlife, and superb scenery that can be enjoyed at whichever pace suits you. The town sits at the foot of the world-famous Mont Blanc and is one of the oldest tourist destinations in the Alps. The atmosphere of the town with its quaint buildings, bustling sidewalk cafés and breathtaking scenery shows just why people from all over the world keep coming back to this unique place.

MOUNTAIN BIKING
There is a wealth of mountain biking opportunities for all ages and abilities, with a multitude of trails. The lift systems in the valley take you to the top of the highest descents while the valley’s train, the Mont Blanc Express is a great way to transport bikes.

Paragliding was invented in the Chamonix area in 1974 and big thermals, eagles, glaciers and high peaks make the valley one of the best flying areas in the world.

SWIMMING, SUNBATHING & WATER SPORTS
Chamonix has a great swimming pool open all year round. In the summer, there is a big outdoor pool for swimming as well as smaller pools and toboggans for children. With a stunning view of the hanging glaciers of Mont Blanc, it’s hard to imagine a pool with a better view of the mountains. There are many lakes in the area, Lac de Passy is a large man-made lake complete with sandy beaches that is only a 20-minute drive from Chamonix. Known locally as Plage du Mont Blanc (Mont Blanc Beach), this is an ideal spot for swimming, sunbathing, windsurfing, mini-golf and via ferrata. Rafting, canyoning, kayaking and hydrospeed are also popular in the area.
